I liked the realistic view of the events. Unlike the Hollywood "mythological" movies about life and hardship of people ending in an artificial "happy note", this film is very realistic and doesn't crave for the viewers approval. The director is quite an independent thinker, and a promising artist. Thank you. Hilda from Burbank. - Hilmelk*****, moviefone I was impressed by the richness of the shooting style, and how the abstract visual and audio editing elements were masterfully used to cohesively push us through the story and also affect us emotionally. I also appreciated the sensitivity of the photographer and the tensions he felt. The "European feel" is not a curse or cliché, but the highest compliment to the director, for I think it hints at the most intimate relationship to cinema and a closeness to the human condition, thereby seeming "authentic". The director was not afraid to have simple characters tackle abstract thoughts/situations/feelings and I think that is very poetic. - Arlene Bogna, Camera Obscura Feedback Form |
CAMERA OBSCURA lingers with you long after you leave a movie theatre and hunts you with unanswered questions. The reality of life seen through the flashes of camera made it look dark and dramatic, yet very truthful. The acting was incredibly good considering the fact that none of the actors were from the list of recognized Hollywood names. Hamlet Sarkissian blew a fresh air of psychoanalyses of European style movie in to the stagnancy of Hollywood hits. Highly recommend. - Luara65, Yahoo Movies This is a disturbingly wonderful movie. More than anything else this film has an industrial strength force in getting the viewer to be disgusted with violence, self-destructiveness, corruption and general un-real insincerity in our society. Everything in the movie meshes together magically the plot, the actors, the photography, the music and the camera sounds. Thanks for a remarkable movie. - AJ, Camera Obscura Feedback Form What an amazing film. I saw it accidentally. This director is an amazing artist. He blew my mind away. - Alicia B. Metacritic.com Great filmmaking. Terrific performances. I was exhausted, shocked and saddened by the end. But it grabbed me. It stands out as a unique film that makes you think. It reminded me of the 70s dark films: risky and uncompromising. Hamlet Sarkissian is a unique voice in modern cinema. I wonder what's his next project. - Diana B. Metacritic.com
